Economic Mission Hightech and Digitalization to Japan 

Are you internationally active in hightech or digitalization? And curious about Japanese technologies and innovations of the future? Then join this mission with Dirk Beljaarts, Minister of Economic Affairs. This mission takes place during the Expo 2025 Osaka, Kansai, Japan. The mission will take place between 18 and 28 May 2025. Registration is now open via the Netherlands Enterprise Agency (RVO) website. Link below.

For Whom?

Participation in this mission is open to Dutch companies and knowledge institutions active in hightech or digitalization. We are organizing this mission for four sectors within hightech and digitalization. For each sector, we offer a specific "track."

Note: We recommend first determining which track you would like to join. The mission dates and the order of the places you visit vary by track.

Tracks
  • HT1 (track 1, within hightech): For those involved with deeptech equipment. This includes:
    • Semiconductors
    • Photonics
    • Quantum equipment in production processes
    • Packaging solutions
    • Semiconductor metrology
    • Test equipment
  • HT2 (track 2, within hightech): For those working with deeptech applications. This includes the use of:
    • Quantum computing (mainly for improving hardware, sensor capacity, secure communication, and materials)
    • Integrated photonics
    • Photonic chips
    • Chip design (photonics and semiconductors)
  • DX1 (track 1, within digitalization): For those focused on "Beyond 5G and 6G." This includes applications of 6G: the new wireless technology ('use cases').
  • DX2 (track 2, within digitalization): For those focused on:
    • Artificial intelligence (AI) and data sharing
    • Techniques for improving privacy
    • Data-sharing systems (data spaces)
    • Data science
 
Japan

Japan and the Netherlands have much in common. Both countries have open economies, share similar societal challenges, and lead in hightech and digitalization.

The Japanese government encourages international cooperation, which provides excellent opportunities for Dutch companies active in hightech or digitalization. By working together, we can achieve the goals of both countries!

Opportunities for Dutch Companies

Japan invests heavily in hightech and digitalization, both for geopolitical reasons and to solve societal challenges. Through these investments, Japan aims to increase its earning potential and protect the environment.

The country is spending hundreds of billions of euros to improve:

  • The semiconductor industry
  • Quantum technology
  • Photonics
  • Artificial intelligence (AI)
  • Applications for "beyond 5G/6G"

There are many opportunities for Dutch companies and knowledge institutions to collaborate in Japan. Companies like ASMI, NXP, Philips, and ASML are already active there. Research institutions like TNO and several Dutch universities are also collaborating with Japan.
