Economic Mission Energy Transition, Sustainability & Circular Economy to Japan
Are you active in the Energy Transition, Sustainability or Circular Economy? Then join this mission with Sophie Hermans, Minister of Climate and Green Growth and Chris Jansen, Minister for the Environment and Public Transport at the Ministry of Infrastructure and Water Management. This mission takes place during the Expo 2025 Osaka, Kansai, Japan. The mission will take place between 15 and 25 September 2025.
For Whom?
Participation in this mission is open to Dutch companies and knowledge institutions active in Energy Transition, Sustainability or Circular Economy. We are organizing this mission for five sectors within these fields. For each sector, we offer a specific "track."
We aim to emphasize the younger generation's role in the mission, empowering them to tackle global challenges and drive future change.

Japan
Japan and the Netherlands have much in common. Both countries have open economies, and have committed to reduce nationwide greenhouse gas emissions to net-zero in 2050 to realize a carbon-neutral society.
The Japanese government is heavily focusing on establishing a stable and self-sufficient energy system, and investing in green energy and other green transformation technologies. This provides excellent opportunities for Dutch companies active in these sectors.
Expo 2025 Osaka
The Netherlands will participate at the Expo 2025 Osaka from 13 April to 13 October with a Netherlands (NL) pavilion. Expo 2025 Osaka has the theme ‘Designing Future Society for Our Lives’. Various events will be organised at the pavilion for this economic mission. More information about the NL pavilion can be found at: Homepage Expo Osaka 2025 | NL Expo 2025
Opportunities for Dutch Companies
Japan aims to invest heavily in the green transition, both for geopolitical reasons and to solve environmental and societal challenges.
The Green Growth Strategy of Japan is focusing on different sectors including:
Offshore Wind Power

There are many opportunities for Dutch companies and knowledge institutions to collaborate in Japan. Companies like Van Oord, GustoMSC|NOV, Damen Shipyards, AkzoNobel, Kiwa, VOPAK, RAU Architects and many more are already active in Japan. Research institutions like TNO, Deltares, and several Dutch universities are also collaborating with Japan.
