Pavilion Closed on National Day, 21 May

His Majesty King Willem-Alexander will visit Japan on Wednesday, 21 May and Thursday, 22 May as part of the Netherlands’ participation in Expo 2025 Osaka. On 21 May, the Netherlands will celebrate National Day at Expo 2025, where the King will deliver a speech. He will also visit the Netherlands Pavilion.

Pavilion Closure on National Day

In connection with the Royal visit, the Netherlands Pavilion will be closed to the public on 21 May. However, visitors to Expo 2025 can still celebrate the Netherlands National Day through a variety of exciting activities and events taking place across the Expo site and in Osaka city.

Introdans & LAND FES

On 21 May, a performance by Introdans and LAND FES will be presented in the National Day Hall. Dutch contemporary dance company Introdans collaborates with Butoh dancer Dai Matsuoka to create a contemporary dance performance rooted in inclusivity. Introdans’ choreographer Adriaan Luteijn and LAND FES’ Matsuoka are both pioneers in inclusive dance, creating works where professional dancers share the stage with performers who face various challenges.

Bridging Past and Future

Additionally, the Bridging Past and Future exhibition will open at the Gallery East on the Expo site. Running from 20 to 25 May, the exhibition highlights the collaboration between Dutch creatives and Japanese artisans, showcasing tangible results of their cross-cultural exchange. It is a celebration of how Dutch ideas and Japanese craftsmanship have shaped each other over centuries.

A New Dawn on Common Ground: 425 Years of Exchange between Japan and the Netherlands

Visitors can also experience an exhibition at Osaka Castle, open from 9 May to 29 May. This exhibition highlights the historical relationship between the Netherlands and Japan. In 2025 the Netherlands celebrates 425 years of Japanese-Dutch relations.
